My husband won't get rid of carpet?

i hate this carpet, it's 25 years old. i shampoo it at least twice a year. as my husband refuses to help keep it clean. i've been begging to get rid of it & put down linoleum ( we've had several animals through out the years). what to do with him - he gets very mad if i start nagging about pulling it up. he said if we get the carpet out, he'd want new carpet but my back can't take the pain of pushing around a vacuum much more. not cleaning it at all is not an option, he could care less if it's dirty, i can't stand it dirty so that's why i clean it. and he's definitely not going to vacuum or shampoo it. it looks so bad too, holes in it where the dogs have scratched at it, can't get rid of the dogs (but not getting anymore anyway.) ....I know i can get rid of the husband! naw- just too crazy about him.
